Lots Going on Around Here!

Juno Emergency
Last weekend we had a pretty big scare, we almost lost our dog Juno to heat stroke. Saturday started out pretty normal, Casey was supposed to work an extra shift that night so we decided we would try to get a bunch of stuff done and then relax out front on the porch with Norah's new pool. So I put Norah down for her afternoon nap and Casey decided he would take a quick run with Juno. Casey and Juno always go running together so it wasn't anything new. So while Casey is out running I'm picking up around the house so we can enjoy the rest of the afternoon out front since the weather had been so nice. About a half hour later I see Casey hosing Juno down in the backyard and Juno is laying on her side panting heavily. She always looks exhausted when she comes home from her runs, but this time was different. I grew up with two other dogs that had also visited our local veterinary emergency hospital so I was familiar with the place, so I called them up and told them what was going on, they said give her about an hour and if she doesn't seem to change or gets worse to go ahead and bring her in. Well now me and Casey are both worried so I start looking up heat stroke in dogs online and read some symptoms we should look out for. After hosing her down we bring her in and lay her under the fan to cool her off. Casey takes her temperature and we keep a close eye on her. Well after a little while, she started looking better so we just let her rest. Luckily Norah was sleeping the whole time this was happening. When Norah got up we decided we would let Juno rest and head on out front with Norah in her pool. Well not long after I come inside and poor Juno had diarrhea and it was everywhere and so I immediately called the ER vet and they said that we needed to bring her down right away. Luckily Casey's parents were heading over anyway so we called them when they were on there way to see if they could watch Norah while we took Juno down and they said of course. Juno couldn't walk so Casey puts her in the back of the Tahoe and we rush down to the ER vet hospital. Casey called into work to let them know he wasn't coming in. Long story short she had to stay for 24 hours and had blood work and a plasma transfusion, fluids and more. It was so stressful and Casey and I were so emotional, Juno is such an amazing dog and so loving and we didn't want to loose her. Before they did any sort of treatment on Juno we had to sign a financial waiver and they gave us a low and high estimate of what the 24 hours would cost, that was so stressful but we had the money in savings and Juno was so important to us and a part of the family that we had to save her. The next day we went down to visit her in the morning. I made some brownies and Casey made a thank you card for the staff at the ER, thanking them for saving Juno.

Sunday we had Casey's family over while we were waiting to pick up Juno from the hospital. We had bought a slip-n-slide for my nephews and Norah had her pool so we all hung out front and had a BBQ. The vet called around 5:30 and Casey went and got Juno and we were so glad to have her home. Now a week later she is back to her old self and we are so thankful.
Here are some pics of Norah in her new pool, she absolutely loves it, there are also pics of the family BBQ on Sunday:

Hanging out on the front porch having fun in the sun!

I've been putting pig tails in Norah's hair
because otherwise she has a mullet :)

In other news...

I have been working on Norah's room lately and almost have it where I want it, but I still have some last touches. Here are some current pics:

Norah turns 13 months
Norah also turned 13 months on Friday! Can't believe it, she is practically running places these days and loves playing with her baby dolls and whatever else she can get her hands on. She loves being outside, just like her daddy and also loves crawling on top of things, especially toys (pic below). We recently purchased her a wagon on craigslist, the one with the seat belts in it and she absolutely loves it and loves taking walks while riding in her wagon. I'm excited to use it for camping since this year I'm not going to bring her stroller and that way we can haul her and the stuff down to the beach :) She is still down to one nap and it's slowly extending which I'm happy about it, she was about 2 hours in the beginning of the transition, but now its a little over 2 and half hours and she still goes to bed around 7 and sleeps until like 6:30, 7ish and she is doing great on her powdered goat's milk.

  1. Norah's room is gorgeous. It screams "Katie" w your beautiful decorating style. Thanks for filling us in on Juno. What a rough few days that must have been. I'm SO glad she is back to herself....what a scare! And I love the pics of Norah in her bathing suit. I gotta say Charlotte has the same dimples on her cheeks when she's standing naked too. Haha! :)
